Shakti
(the primordial, feminine force of the universe)

People often ask me how I became interested in Middle Eastern Dance. My first response is that is was definitely the music. The rhythm of the drums with exotic songs made my hips move almost by themselves.

I began studying
Middle Eastern dance at 18. My first teacher was an Egyptian man named Fakhar. I learned walking undulation, basic hip movements, and slow, dramatic self expression. Shandra took over his classes, and with each new teacher, I gained new insight. She moved like a jungle cat, and it enhanced my dancing. I added floor and veil work to my routine. I performed throughout college at parties, gallery openings, and ethnic restaurants. The travel bug took me back to my European gypsy roots with a long stopover in India. Once settled in the ashram, I studied yoga, meditation, and became interested in ethnic Indian Mudra dancing as well as Shivaite sword expression.

While living in Charleston, SC, I have studied with Mystic Maria, who helped reinvent my exotic self and work with the cane. I prefer to do the slow cabaret with mudric hand movements. Using natural expressions, I work with the veil and the sword. I have found Middle Eastern dancing to be one of the best overall body improvers. It is an extremely expressive way to be creative and it has touched my soul.

Please take a look around my website and contact me for classes!!
